This is the 1942 limited-edition lithograph of Declaration of Independence by Czech-American lithographer Theodore Ohman, which is considered among the most valued reproductions of the historical document. It is framed nicely in a poster frame with black matte background.
At the lower right the engraving says 'Copyright 1942, by the Ohman Co., Memphis, Tenn.' In 1942 using the last photograph taken of the original Declaration before it was permanently sealed in the National Archives in 1903 and the Stone engraving made in 1823, Ohman was able to combine the original writing with the exact present appearance of the parchment. This was a two-step process: the background is the 1942 photo, whereas an image taken from an original stone engraving is superimposed over it. He meticulously placed every word and signature over the cracks in the Declaration and was also able to reproduce the appearance of the cracked and smudged original parchment. The result is a remarkably realistic version of this historical document as it would appear if the original ink not faded.
The Ohman lithographs are featured in the collections of the National Archives, Library of Congress, and Independence Hall. Valued at 0-0
